What is a Halloween Boo Basket Anyway?
A Halloween Boo Basket is a festive tradition where you gift baskets (or buckets!) filled with Halloween-themed treats, goodies, and surprises! The contents of a Boo Basket can vary widely, including items such as candy, snacks, small toys, decorative items, or even homemade crafts, all in the spirit of spreading Halloween cheer and making the seasons at little extra magical.
Many people gift these baskets to friends, co-workers and neighbors as well, it doesn’t have to be just for kids! It really is the perfect way of spreading some spooky season cheer to people of all ages…. but for today… let’s get on with the kids baskets for all of you over-the-top magic making mamas just like me who can’t wait to spoil your little goblins!

Everything you will need:
Basket or Container:
Start with a spooky vessel to hold all your treats. A classic wicker basket (this is my fav because its so CUTE & can be reused for other holiday gift baskets throughout the year), a cauldron (can also be reused for ‘Pot of Gold’ St Pattys Day baskets), or if you want to go super overboard like me check out this ADORABLE personalized pumpkin basket.. you can have them use it for trick-or-treating too!
Creepy Decorations:
Set the stage for a spine-chilling surprise by adorning your basket with Halloween decorations. Think fake cobwebs, plastic spiders (these ones are glow in the dark and multi-colored!), miniature pumpkins, and spooky stickers.
Sweet Treats:
Fill your Boo Basket with an assortment of Halloween-themed candies and chocolates. From candy corn to chocolate eyeballs, the possibilities are endless. I know depending on the age (and your preferences) you might not want to load them up with sugar. Feel free to totally opt out of this one, or you could adjust and add their favorite healthier snacks!
PSA! Trader Joe’s carries the “ghost & bat” chips every season. They are sooo adorable and a slightly healthier option but still a treat 🙂
Tricks and Treats:
Add a mix of fun surprises like small toys, stickers, temporary tattoos, or glow-in-the-dark accessories to keep the excitement alive long after the candy is gone.

Personal Touches:
Customize your Boo Basket with personalized items like a handwritten note or a homemade Halloween-themed craft. It’s these little touches like this that make the experience truly magical for your kids… they will remember this stuff forever! <3
How To Make It:
1. Choose Your Theme: Decide on a theme for your Boo Basket. Whether it’s witches and wizards, ghosts and ghouls, or pumpkins and bats, let your imagination run wild. Obviously this is optional, but I just think it’s so fun and you can align it with what your kid likes the most!
2. Gather Your Supplies: Okay… OBVIOUSLY Amazon is always my main go-to for just about everything but this time of year I love to actually get out and see for myself what’s new and in stock. So head to your local craft store or raid your Halloween stash for decorations, treats, and surprises to fill your basket.
My favorite stores to look:
- Dollar Tree
- Marshall’s/ TJ Maxx/ Home Goods
- 5 Below
- Target Bullseye’s playground
3. Assemble Your Basket: Line your chosen container with tissue paper or shredded paper to create a spooky nest. Arrange your decorations and treats in layers, starting with larger items at the bottom and working your way up to smaller items on top.
4. Add Personal Touches: Don’t forget to add those special touches that make your Boo Basket one-of-a-kind. Write a spooky poem or create a themed scavenger hunt to add an extra layer of fun.
5. Gift the Boo Basket: Once your Boo Basket is ready, it’s time to deliver some Halloween cheer! Sneakily hide the basket somewhere where they’ll have to hunt for it, set in up on the kitchen table with a cute spooky season kick-off themed breakfast… or if you don’t wanna be so extra (like me lol), just give it to them and watch their faces light up with joy!
Extra Tips:
- Get Creative: Don’t be afraid to think outside the coffin! Experiment with different themes, decorations, and treats to make your Boo Basket truly unique.
- Keep It Age-Appropriate: Tailor the contents of your Boo Basket to suit the age and interests of your little monsters.
- Spread the Spirit: Encourage friends and neighbors to join in on the fun by starting a Boo Basket chain. It’s a spook-tacular way to spread Halloween cheer throughout your community.
Crafting a Halloween Boo Basket is a bewitching way to get into the spirit of the season and spread some spooky joy to the little witches and wizards in your life. With a dash of creativity and a sprinkle of magic, you can create a Boo Basket that’s sure to haunt their dreams (in the best way possible). So grab your broomsticks and cauldrons, and let the Halloween festivities begin!
